The Historical Guild 209 is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit formed in September of 2025, and officially launched on July 4th, 2026, when several members of other historical societies felt that not enough was being done or truthfully communicated about the state of historic preservation in our area.
Founded by local author and historian Ralph A. Clark, who led the fight to preserve the historic Sunset Theater in Lodi. While ultimately unsuccessful, our founder succeeded in bringing the truth to the public about the lack of concern in several cities and towns with historic preservation and knowledge.
After trying to rally local preservationists and the general public to the cause, he realized there wasn’t a working community of historians, writers, influencers, and caretakers, that could be called upon to speak and advise concerning local history. So he decided on the radical idea of bringing together all these people under a loosely organized group that would work together to promote and and support each other’s work in lonely and oftentimes territorial field of local history.
And so the Historical Guild was born…
